A team of evaluators from the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts for the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (MONEYVAL) carried out an onsite visit to the Holy See / Vatican City State from 30 September to 12 October 2020.
The on-site visit is being held in the framework of a mutual evaluation aimed at assessing compliance of the Holy See / Vatican City State with international standards in the area of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT), in particular the 40 Recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
The evaluation team was composed of MONEYVAL experts with a legal, law enforcement and financial background and supported by members of the MONEYVAL Secretariat. The evaluators were received by Pope Francis. They also met with the Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin, criminal justice and operational agencies, the financial intelligence and supervisory authorities, as well as financial sector and non-profit operators.
The report will be scheduled for discussion and adoption at MONEYVAL’s 61st Plenary meeting: 26 – 30 April 2021.
