Strengthening the Kosovo* Institutions in the fight against torture, ill-treatment and other degrading treatment (IKOS)
The main objective of the proejct is to improve the rights and freedom of persons deprived of liberty in Kosovo* by reducing ill-treatment and ensuring effective investigations or allegations of ill-treatment.
The main partners are the Ombudsperson Institution, Judicial Council, Prosecutorial Council, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law Faculties, Justice Academy, Ministry of Justice/ Correctional Service and Prison Health Department of the Ministry of Health.
The following results are expected:
- NPM staff are taking steps to improve their skills in monitoring detention facilities and to follow up on their recommendations
- Kosovo* Academy of Justice is taking steps to improve trainings for the judiciary related to fight against ill treatment and torture
- Kosovo judiciary and law students are demonstrating better understanding of ECtHR standards in relation to fight against ill treatment and torture
