Training curriculum for high-school students “The role of peer educators in combating hate speech among students” (two editions: 2014-2015 and 2016-2017)
Description: These training curricula are designed for students of secondary (general / grammar and vocational) schools and was implemented between 2014 and 2015 in various cities in Montenegro. The training included a series of activities tailored to the needs and interests of the participants (students) for the purpose of adopting a set of skills and specific knowledge, and familiarising themselves with the values and goals of peer education. Additionally, the aim of the course was to enable participants to acquire the competences necessary for effectively identifying and recognising hate speech, and provide support for the victims of hate speech in the school environment and beyond, with special emphasis on online hate speech, as well as to encourage close co-operation with school teachers. The topics of the three-day training course included: group building exercises; concept and fundamentals of human rights; online violence and abuse of children and young people; policies and procedures to tackle hate speech; the role of peer educators in the implementation of preventive peer programmes. The training curricula are in Montenegrin, and as an outcome of the training courses the students of the Volunteering Club from the “Slobodan Škerović” grammar school, supported by the Directorate for Youth and National Campaign Committee, created a video by involving a number of students from different schools, promoting the NHSM campaign in Montenegro and the role of students in combating hate speech in schools.
