Call for partners to integrate the programme of the African University on Youth and Development 2022

Following a hiatus of a few years, the African University on Youth and Development will resume next November, relaunching the North-South Centre’s activities in the area of Africa-Europe Youth Cooperation.

It was the year 2007 when the NSC co-organised in Lisbon the first ever Africa-Europe Youth Summit. Following this milestone, a solid “Africa-Europe Youth Cooperation Programme” (programmatic framework supported by both the European Union and the African Union) allowed, until the year 2015, for the implementation of a vast range of activities, including exchange of good practices and policy development processes in the framework of the EU-Africa Joint Strategy (JAES).

The 2022 edition of the AUYD intends to contribute to set up a new transparent, stable, and inclusive Euro-Africa youth platform by providing youth entities with the opportunity to connect through a cross-sectorial approach to youth policies.

The event responds to the needs, expressed by many youth stakeholders, for more dynamic and flexible spaces that could allow for the identification of common priorities, the sharing of new practices, the convergence around joint policy orientations and, ultimately, the fostering of a greater coordination among all players in the youth field in Europe and Africa.

The African University on Youth and Development 2022 will take place in Mindelo, Cape Verde from 22 to 26 November 2022.

As the other “Summer Universities” organised by the NSC, the AUYD 2022 is a partnership-based event gathering hundreds of young people, youth workers, field experts, and decision makers, providing them all with a space to meet, debate, build their capacities and cooperate on youth policy issues.

Youth organisations and any other youth-related institutions operating in (Europe, Africa, and Middle East) are invited to organise an activity within the UYD 2022.

The schedule of the week enables organisations to run their own activities (trainings, seminars, board meetings, etc.) while ensuring enough time for everyone to get involved in the plenary sessions (joint programme) that will explore the annual theme: “Building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions”, as one of the three dimensions of the SDG 16.

Considering the specific occasion of the relaunching of the AUYD, specific plenary sessions will be dedicated to the reflection on Africa-Europe Youth Cooperation, following up on the Abidjan Youth Declaration of the 4th Africa-Europe Youth Summit and reflecting on the EU Youth Action Plan for External Action and the main outcomes of the Youth track of Africa-Europe Week 2022. The AUYD 2022 Joint Programme will also explore the interdependence between the Youth, Peace, and Security Agenda (YPS) and SDG16, connecting the peacebuilding efforts of youth civil society to the measures undertaken by governments and international institutions to guarantee the protection of human rights.
