Last Friday, on its 27th meeting, the Executive Committee of the North-South Centre elected by consensus its new Chair, Vice-Chair, and members of the Bureau for the next two years.
The Permanent Representative of Malta to the Council of Europe, H.E. Ambassador Lorenzo Vella, is the new Chair of the Executive Committee, and “will continue to build on the excellent work carried out by Spain, and to further advance the objectives and priorities of the Centre”. The Vice-Chair position will continue being ensured by the Kingdom of Morocco, represented by Consul General Mr Driss Kaissi. Azerbaijan, Greece, the Kingdom of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain make up the Bureau members, as well as the EU Committee of the Regions/Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, the Conference of INGOs, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The European Union will continue holding a seat in the Bureau in light of article 5.1 of the Executive Committee internal rules of procedure.
