Every day, hundreds of thousands of girls around the world are subjected to practices that harm them physically and psychologically. The lack of legal provisions regarding the minimum age of marriage, the critical rise of violence against girls in humanitarian settings, and the lack of public awareness on the harmful practices to which girls are subjected are urgent priorities highlighted by civil society organisations and grassroots workers in the Southern Mediterranean.
Part of the South Programme IV “Regional Support to Reinforce Human Rights, Rule of Law and Democracy in the Southern Mediterranean”, the Conference “Protecting girls, Reinforcing the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation to protect girls against gender-based violence” is organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe and will take place on the 29th of June.
Experts from civil society, governments and intergovernmental organisations across North-Africa, the Middle East and Europe will unite to address the protection of girls in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Part of the event will be the exchange of practices with the participation of the grantees of the project "Euro-Mediterranean cooperation to protect women and girls against violence", with whom the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe has been working for two years.
This event aims at encouraging cooperation and establishing concrete recommendations to advance toward a more structured collaboration among civil society and local, regional authorities and international organisations.
Whether you are also an actor in this field, or simply convinced that the protection of girls may only be effective through a massive mobilisation encouraging dialogue, cooperation and / or protective public policies, join us online on the 29th of June.
