Taking advantage of Council of Europe’s strategic positioning in Strasbourg, the annual conference involves local stakeholders, including schools, institutes and museums. They organise side events in line with the main topic, programme and objectives of the conference.

CONFERENCE-DEBATE

Wednesday, 30 November 2022 (18.30 - 20.00)

Between history and memory. Strasbourg and Alsace faced with Nazism

Conférence-débat / Hôtel de Ville (9 rue Brûlée)

In May 2022, the Historical Commission for the History of the Medical Faculty of the Reichsuniversität Straßburg (CHRUS) made public the results of its work, which documented, among other areas, the fate of the 86 Jewish men and women from all over Europe who were deported and executed at the Struthof camp.

A conference-debate on this theme will be based on the topicality of the report published in May 2022 and on the exhibition "Facing nazism. The Alsatian case".

  • Ms Catherine Maurer, professor of contemporary history at the University of Strasbourg, co-curator of the exhibition of the National and University Library of Strasbourg (BNU) "Facing Nazism. The Alsatian Case" and member of the Historical Commission for the History of the Medical Faculty of the Reichsuniversität Straßburg (CHRUS)
  • Ms Frédérique Neau-Dufour, associate professor and doctor of history, former director of the European Center of Deported Resistance Members located on the site of the former Natzwiller concentration camp and president of the association "Regards d'enfants"
  • Mr Jérôme Schweitzer, doctor of history, curator of libraries at the BNU and co-curator of the exhibition "Facing nazism. The Alsatian Case"
  • Mr Thomas Serrier, germanist and historian, professor at the University of Lille, member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Observatory of History Teaching in Europe
