A new awareness raising initiative in Montenegro is putting the spotlight on free legal aid available to victims of human trafficking. An important part of this initiative are multilingual informational leaflets designed to inform victims about their legal rights.

Created in collaboration with the Supreme Court, the Office for Fight Against Trafficking in Human Beings, and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the leaflets are available in Montenegrin, English, Albanian, Ukrainian , and Farsi.

These materials are being distributed to key institutions, such as police, prosecution offices, social centres, and courts— where victims are most likely to seek help. Until now, these services were not used by the human trafficking victims making this initiative an important step in enhancing access to justice and protection for the victims across Montenegro.

The leaflets were supported by the action "Strengthening accountability of the judicial system and enhancing protection of victims' rights in Montenegro", which is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
