A workshop for court experts was held on 18 May in Podgorica, to discuss the legal framework for the work of court experts in Montenegro, as well as the mechanisms for strengthening their accountability.

During the workshop, possible legislative models for reorganising the Association of Court Experts of Montenegro were examined, based on Council of Europe comparative practices. Also, the draft of the new Code of Ethics was presented and discussed with court experts. With support of local Council of Europe consultants, participants thus outlined recommendations which will be shaped into concrete policy proposals and further submitted to decision-makers.

"We are looking forward to optimising the ethics and professionalism of court experts, as well as to establishing stronger and better organisation which will provide an adequate professional and accountable frame for the work of court experts", said the president of the Association of Court Experts, Nebojsa Kavaric, at the workshop. Jelena Ticic, member of the Association's Council added that it is important for court experts to co-operate with the Council of Europe and contribute to further improvement of the legal system of Montenegro.
