MedNET network of the Pompidou Group held its 29th Steering Committee meeting on 8 November 2023 at the Council of Europe Headquarters in Strasbourg. The 7 Southern Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine* and Tunisia) have presented the state of progress of the projects carried out in 2023 with the support of MedNET and presented the activity proposals for 2024.

The review of the work accomplished in 2023 was impressive in terms of training and education and progress in treatment and care and the new activities proposed by the countries do demonstrate the usefulness and impact of this unique cooperation mechanism in the Mediterranean Region.

The meeting also allowed an in-depth discussion on the multi-country activities carried-out this year, in particular the study visit in Italy and the seminar on Criminal Justice and Health in Prisons in the Mediterranean Region. 

After holding the presidency of the network between 2022 and 2023, Cyprus handed it over to Morocco.
