On 10 November 2016 in Prague, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schultz and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, will open a conference on ‘Public Service Media and Democracy’. The conference is jointly organised by the Council of Europe and its Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), European Broadcasters Union (EBU), the Czech Parliament and Czech Television. Hosted in the Chamber of Deputies of Parliament of the Czech Republic, the event will gather parliamentarians from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as regulators and Public Service Media managers.
The aim of the conference is to analyse the role and responsibility of parliaments in securing freedom of expression and freedom of the media. It will address the need to ensure professional and independent Public Service Media in Europe.
