“Democracy can never be taken for granted anywhere. It is hard won, but easily lost. The Council of Europe has been warning for years now about an increase in democratic backsliding. Was the war inevitable? No, it was a choice made in Moscow and that is where responsibility lies. We must continue supporting Ukraine using all the tools at our disposal and ensure accountability as a means to a just and sustainable peace. We can prevent further conflicts by returning to the principle of democratic security in which governments put their faith in democracy at national level and in multilateral institutions to protect and promote democracy by finding international solutions to international challenges”, said Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić while addressing the Leaders’ Panel “North-South, East-West: in Search of Safe Passages”.
The Dubrovnik Forum 2024 "Dire Straits and Safe Passages" is a policy conference which brings together Ministers and senior political figures to discuss issues on the current global political agenda.
