The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) says Slovakia and the Czech Republic need to do more to carry out its recommendations from 2020.
ECRI’s finding show that authorities in the Czech Republic have only partially acted to address discrimination against the LGBTI community and to stop the segregation of Roma children in schools, although they have worked on policies and funding.
Authorities in the Slovak Republic were persistently failing to develop an action plan for the LGBTI community, shown to be more necessary than ever following the October 2022 attacks in Bratislava which led to the death of two LGBTI people. ECRI added that Slovakia had only partly acted to provide compulsory pre-school education to young children, adding that although kindergarten attendance for all children over 5 was now compulsory, Roma children continued to suffer from a lack of capacity in kindergartens.
