The Institute of Public Law, Political Science and Public Administration and European Law and International Law, in cooperation with the Permanent Representative of Austria to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, Ambassador Aloisia Wörgetter, are organising a series of lectures at the University of Innsbruck.
“In a world where the principles of the rule of law, democracy and respect for human rights are challenged and threatened, it is vital to reaffirm the importance of these values to students and new generations. By inspiring young people with the various achievements of the Council of Europe, both in Austria and internationally, we hope to highlight the concrete progress made possible by this European institution. I would like to thank all the Austrian experts who are taking part in this series of lectures and who are helping to increase the visibility of the Council of Europe,” said Ambassador Aloisia Wörgetter.
The 2024-2025 lecture series brings together experts from diverse disciplines to share their insights and explore the history and impact of the Council of Europe. A special focus will be placed on the European Convention on Human Rights, its role in shaping pan-European human rights development, and its influence on jurisprudence. The lecture series also highlights the breadth and diversity of the Council of Europe’s activities and institutions.
Covering a wide range of topics—from rule of law issues and local democracy to violence against women, climate change, corruption, artificial intelligence and national minorities—the lecture series will also address critical and timely discussions, including the Bern Convention and Russia's accountability for its war of aggression against Ukraine.
The aim of the lectures is to raise awareness of the Council of Europe and its activities on the occasion of the organisation´s 75th anniversary.
