Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland is addressing the Human Rights Council of the United Nations on 28 February during a two-day working visit to Geneva (27-28 February).
Meetings are scheduled with:
- António Guterres, United Nations Secretary General
- Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
- Jean Asselborn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg
In his intervention, Jagland will raise the question how states can maintain stability and respect human rights against the rising tide of populism.
In a separate meeting with the European Broadcasting Union’s Director General Ms Ingrid Deltenre, he discussed current challenges to public sector media and how to tackle the phenomenon of fake news. He underlined the positive role of public sector media through factually correct reporting.
