“Giovanni Falcone set a model for international judicial co-operation and law enforcement against organised crime, expanding his investigations beyond the scope of traditional prosecutorial work for a criminal phenomenon that was no longer national.
Falcone applied a determined focus on transnational Mafia activities: seizing financial assets, using specialised investigative techniques and ensuring effective witness protection schemes. His strategic approach remains relevant to solving cross-border crime today”, declared Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the assassination near Palermo of this visionary Italian judge.
