On 18 September, Europe celebrates the “European Heritage Days” initiated jointly by the Council of Europe and the European Union. The Croatian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers regards this as an important occasion to highlight the potential and impact of this initiative.
The European Heritage Days offer to all citizens a unique opportunity to better understand how culture brings us together and how to share it. They raise awareness to common European historical and artistic values which go beyond any differences and tensions.
Croatia has given a prominent position to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage in its priorities and strongly supports the European Heritage Days.
We see culture and cultural heritage as a factor of social and economic development and as an important tool for creating a climate conducive of understanding and acceptance of European cultural diversity and richness.
