Legal professionals (judges, lawyers and prosecutors) and health professionals will be trained in the main principles of protection of human rights in the field of biomedicine from 2018, as part of a course developed and implemented by Bioethics Unit and European program of Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) of the Council of Europe.
The content of the course, which will enable these professionals to acquire practical and procedural skills, was discussed at a seminar organized in Moscow on 30 June in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Russian State University of Justice.
The day before, a conference on human rights and biomedicine, devoted to ethical and legal aspects of informed consent, brought together over 150 judges and other law and health professionals, as well as representatives of the competent authorities, academic sectors and relevant institutions. This topic was chosen due to its relevance, reflected in the recent case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and the case-law of the Russian courts.
This conference is part of development of co-operation activities between the Council of Europe and the Russian Federation in the field of bioethics.
