Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić is taking part in the Conference on Black Sea Security of the International Crimea Platform in Bucharest today where she delivered a speech in a panel entitled “lessons learned from the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and its multidimensional impact”.
Her intervention focused on the Council of Europe’s support for Ukraine and its neighbours from the Black Sea Region, and on the need to ensure accountability.
In August 2021 and in August 2022, Secretary General participated in the First and Second Summit of the Crimea Platform, hosted by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the Second Summit, the Secretary General addressed human rights challenges in Crimea, following her first report on the human rights situation in in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, Ukraine, which was presented in June 2022.
