The Council of Europe has assembled more than 500 cybercrime experts from all over the world in Bucharest (Romania) to discuss best practices for securing and sharing electronic evidence and strengthen international co-operation.
The Octopus conference from 13 to 15 December will also be an occasion to review the impact of the capacity building provided through the Council of Europe Cybercrime Programme Office (C-PROC) on its 10-year anniversary and to discuss operational priorities. C-PROC has supported around 2 000 activities involving more than 120 countries since 2014 (see latest progress report).
The programme of the conference includes 14 workshops covering a wide range of topics, such as cybercrime legislation, spontaneous information sharing, online child sexual exploitation and abuse, online violence against women and trafficking in human beings, financial investigations and artificial intelligence, as well as online xenophobia and freedom of expression.
A series of regional workshops will be dedicated to Asia, the Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Speakers include representatives from various Council of Europe bodies, other organisations (Interpol, OSCE, UNODC), the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United States Department of Justice, as well as from the private sector, civil society and criminal justice authorities from across the world.
The Octopus Conference is part of the Octopus Project, currently funded by voluntary contributions from Canada, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, UK and USA.
