Raoul Wallenberg Prize 2024: call for nominations officially launched

Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has officially launched the call for nominations for the Raoul Wallenberg Prize 2024 on 5 July 2023. The 10,000 euros prize is awarded every two years to an individual, group of individuals or an organisation that has achieved something extraordinary in the defence of human rights, or who have acted bravely beyond the call of duty.

The prize is named after Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, who used his status in Budapest to save tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust. His actions show that one person's courage and ability can really make a difference, offering inspiration to us all to speak out and indeed to act against persecution, xenophobia and anti-Semitism. The deadline for applications is 31 October 2023. The prize will be awarded in Strasbourg on or around 17 January 2024 (Wallenberg was arrested on 17 January 1945 by Soviet forces. He was never seen alive again).
