Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland made an official visit to the Republic of Moldova on 30 and 31 May.
During his visit to Chisinau, the Secretary General launched the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2017-2020, together with Andrei Galbur, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, to strengthen co-operation with the Moldovan authorities.
Secretary General Jagland held meetings with President Igor Dodon, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, the President of the Parliament Andrian Candu, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Andrei Galbur, and the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Gheorge Bălan.
He gave a lecture at the Moldova State University on the challenges and the threats to democratic security.
The Secretary General also met with the Minister of Justice, Vladimir Cebotari, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Alexandru Jizdan.
On the agenda there was also meetings scheduled with members of the national delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, representatives of the civil society and extra-parliamentary parties.
