Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met the Chair of Verkhovna Rada (the Parliament) of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk. Accountability and the Register of Damage for Ukraine, as an integral part of the future compensation mechanism, were at the centre of the meeting, with the opening of the process of submission of claims.
The Secretary General underscored this extraordinary achievement, which is a follow up to the Reykjavik Summit. She also stressed the organisation’s strong commitment to the protection of the human rights of civilians, including unlawfully transferred children of Ukraine. The Council of Europe’s full support for advancing the ongoing legislative reforms was also highlighted, with reference to the Action Plan for Ukraine for 2023-2026.
