Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met the Minister of Justice of Latvia Inese Lībiņa-Egnere. During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as the “Riga Principles” adopted at the informal conference of Ministers of Justice in Riga (September 2023) as an important reference point for achieving comprehensive accountability for the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The forthcoming High-Level Conference on the European Social Charter (4th July), that will be organised under the Lithuanian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, as well as Latvia’s recent ratification of the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (known as the “Istanbul Convention”) were also amongst the topics discussed.
Ahead of the meeting, the Minister of Justice signed the Convention on Access to Official Documents, during a ceremony at the Palais de l’Europe at the presence of the Secretary General.
