Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides. The meeting focused on the follow-up to the Reykjavik Summit, highlighting the need to respond to new challenges such as artificial intelligence and the impact of climate change and environmental damage on human rights. It also included discussions on the importance of the Convention-system, including the execution of judgments, and the need to strengthen EU-Council of Europe relationship.
The Secretary General reiterated the Organisation’s readiness to support any reconciliation and negotiation process in Cyprus with Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), based on Council of Europe’s expertise.
