Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met key ministers and personalities during an official visit to the United Kingdom. Meeting the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly, the Secretary General highlighted the Fourth Summit of the Heads of State and Government outcomes, notably the importance of multilateralism, the ongoing negotiations of the Council of Europe Artificial Intelligence Convention, and the future action of the Organisation to counter migrants’ smuggling.
Following her speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, Marija Pejčinović Burić reiterated the importance of setting up a Register of Damage in The Hague (with a bureau in Kyiv) to record and document evidence and claims of damage, loss, or injury resulting from the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“A victim-centred approach will underpin the Register. The humanitarian claims concerning gross and systemic breaches of individual rights would be a priority, in order to protect and compensate victims”, she said.
The Secretary General also met with Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice Alex Chalk, and Attorney General Victoria Prentis, respectively, with whom she discussed co-operation in the areas of human rights and the rule of law.
