The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, has expressed her sadness and dismay at the avalanches in eastern Turkey that are reported to have claimed many lives.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Turkey as we hear the terrible news unfolding of avalanches that have killed many people, including rescue workers.
“We express our sincere condolences to the Turkish authorities and to all those who have been affected by this awful tragedy,” said the Secretary General.
