Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has assured the United Nations Human Rights Council that it can count on the Council of Europe’s support across a wide range of sectors.
Speaking in Geneva at the UN body’s 43rd session, the Secretary General underlined the importance of close cooperation between the two organisations, notably with regard to protecting women from violence. She expressed satisfaction that the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention is seen by the UN as a key text in this field.
She also highlighted the positive nature of bilateral cooperation in the fight against corruption and terrorism, promoting social rights, protecting children and examining the human rights aspects of Artificial Intelligence.
