The Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees (SRSG), Leyla Kayacik will carry out a fact-finding mission to Bulgaria from 11 to 15 September.
The visit will focus on persons in vulnerable situations, in particular unaccompanied and separated children, and is aimed at identifying opportunities for the Council of Europe to provide support and expertise to the authorities in the framework of the Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025).
Meetings are scheduled with the relevant state authorities, the Ombudsperson’s Office, representatives of international organisations and NGOs. The Special Representative will visit registration and reception centres. A visit to a border crossing with Türkiye is also foreseen.
The fact-finding mission will be followed up with a report. The SRSG has already issued five reports, on Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Poland, the Republic of Moldova and Romania, with a report on Hungary to be published shortly.
