On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Council of Europe's European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), a high-level conference will be organised on 26 and 27 September in Paris to take stock of its action and of the progress achieved in Europe in the fight against racism and intolerance, but also to develop responses to new challenges in this field.
How can we better integrate people exposed to racism and intolerance and combat hate speech into the political debate? How can new technologies and Internet be used to prevent and combat discrimination? What framework can be used to combat hate content? These issues will be discussed by ministers, representatives of international organisations, equality bodies, civil society and experts attending this event.
Organised under the auspices of the French Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, the conference will be opened by Amélie de Montchalin, Secretary of State in charge of European Affairs of France ; Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General ; Linos-Alexander Sicilianos, President of the European Court of Human Rights ; and Nicole Trisse, Vice-President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, will also deliver a speech.
At the end of the conference, ECRI will publish a roadmap for effective equality.
