The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) of the Council of Europe is proudly marking its 60th anniversary this year, celebrating six decades of pioneering work in protecting public health and striving for a world in which everyone can enjoy better health.
Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, stated on this occasion: “For 60 years now, the EDQM has been making an enormous contribution to public health on our continent and beyond. All of us benefit from its work to ensure the access and availability of safe, good quality medicines and health products. No other continent has established a body of the equivalent size, scale and scope of the EDQM. It is a remarkable achievement and a hallmark of our modern European civilisation.”

The conference also serves as a platform to unveil the EDQM’s medium-term strategy, articulating its vision, mission, values and principles and setting forth the strategic directions the EDQM will follow in the years to come to efficiently and effectively respond to health issues in a fast-moving and unpredictable environment.
Dr Petra Doerr, EDQM Director, declared: “Our work over the past sixty years has been driven by a commitment to better public health, patient safety and scientific excellence.
