Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić had a meeting with President of the European Council Charles Michel in the Europa Building Forum in Brussels. The meeting focused on the upcoming Council of Europe Fourth Summit of the Heads of State and Government in Reykjavik (16th – 17th May).
Marija Pejčinović Burić emphasized the need to ensure accountability in Ukraine, highlighting her proposal to set up a Register of damage in relation to the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Cooperation between the Council of Europe and the European Union, including the Union accession to the European Convention of Human Rights was discussed, as was the importance to strengthen political dialogue between two institutions.
The Secretary General also underlined the relevance of the Council of Europe Contact Group with representatives of the Belarusian democratic opposition and civil society.
