“Ukraine’s recovery, in its fullest sense, requires good governance, European values to underpin it, and democratic security as the basis of lasting peace, so that stability, prosperity and progress can take root”, said Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano, Switzerland.
She reiterated that the Council of Europe stands united with the government of its member State Ukraine and its people in the face of Russia’s aggression. “The Council of Europe is helping Ukraine, not least through supporting the country’s EU aspirations,” Pejčinović Burić stressed.
Examples of the Council of Europe’s support to Ukraine include advising Ukraine’s Prosecutor General on investigations into gross human rights violations during the ongoing conflict, adjusting the joint Ukraine Action Plan, and a 50 million euros Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction package to be implemented as soon as possible, in addition to the significant support provided by the Council of Europe Development Bank, she noted. “Ukraine’s recovery will be a European recovery, and the Council of Europe will be proud to be part of it,” Secretary General concluded.
