ZDF Studios to shop Estonian murder mystery drama Von Fock to global buyers
Germany’s ZDF Studios has secured the worldwide distribution rights for the first two seasons (both 4×45’) of new whodunnit drama Von Fock. Based on the books by Ain Kütt, it’s coproduced by Estonian indie prodco Zolba Productions, Latvia’s Berghein Production and Nafta, Italy’s Movie.Mento, Albolina Film and Eesti Telefilm for Estonian Public Broadcasting, Eesti Telefilm, Latvia’s LTV and Lithuania’s LRT.

At Tallinn, panellists unpack the development and financing of the series Von Fock
On 19 November, the Nordic Hotel Forum’s Capella hosted a 30-minute case study focusing on the making of the Estonian-Latvian-German-Italian period drama series Von Fock. The “Brutally Honest Case Study” session, moderated by COO and head of International at Finland’s Post Control Johanna Nunnu Karppinen, featured Jevgeni Supin from Zolba, Helen Lõhmus from Orée Films, Gunda Bergmane from Nafta Films, ZDF Studios representative Mirela Nastase and Markus Frings from Movie.mento. The talk was held as part of this year’s Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event programme, running alongside the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival from 15-22 November.

The long-awaited period crime drama Von Fock premiered its pilot episode at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) on November 19, marking a historic milestone for Baltic television. Co-produced by Estonia, Latvia, and Italy, Von Fock is the most expensive TV series ever made in Estonia, demonstrating the region’s growing prowess in high-quality drama production. The series is already set for international distribution through ZDF Studios, which will handle its rollout outside the Baltics and Italy.

The results of the second round of project’s evaluation under the Council of Europe’s Pilot Programme for Series Co-Productions have just been announced. Further to the evaluations made by independent experts, the Council of Europe, home of Eurimages, has decided to support nine series co-productions for a total amount of €3 500 000. Of the 9 series co-productions projects supported during the session, women represent 42% of creators, 55% of writers and 40% of directors. Thirteen national, regional, or minority languages are used.

NEM Zagreb unveils the NEM Awards jury
NEM Zagreb, which will run from 10-12 December, has announced the line-up of industry experts who will judge the second edition of the NEM Awards, which celebrate the best content originating from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The jury, comprising leading figures in television content, includes chief content officers, acquisition managers, executive producers and screenwriters. The professionals will assess submissions in various categories, offering recognition for outstanding achievements in TV production.

The Council of Europe Series Co-Production Development Award (worth €50,000) was granted to the Swedish series Puck, directed by Anna-Karin Garhamn and produced by Caroline Drab (Sweden).
