On 23-26 July, the Director of Council of Europe Programme Co-ordination Claus Neukirch, met with representatives of the Moldovan authorities to discuss the impact of the current Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova as well as the future priorities in the context of the new Action Plan for 2025-2028.

His visit included exchanges with Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, Minister of Justice, Sergiu Mihov, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ana Revenco, Director, Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation, as well as Ana Calinici, State Secretary of Government, State Chancellery and Mihai Lupascu, Director of the Agency for Cyber Security. Claus Neukirch attended also a working group meeting on “Justice, Anti-Corruption and Security “ in the framework of the Moldova Partnership Platform and met with H.E. Amb. Jānis Mažeiks, Head of the EU Delegation, to discuss the continued cooperation between The Council and the European Union in the Republic of Moldova.

The Official reiterated the importance for the Council of Europe to continue assisting the Republic of Moldova in implementing its democratic reform agenda in particular in the context of its EU-accession agenda.

Interlocutors highlighted key achievements in particular in the field of support to the judicial reforms, the fight against gender-based violence and in support of the electoral administration to continue ensuring free and fair election processes.

The Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2021-2024 is a strategic programming instrument aimed at further aligning the Moldovan national legislation, institutions and practice with European standards in terms of human rights, rule of law and democracy. Including 17 areas of intervention, with an overall budget of approximately €25 million, the Action Plan is an instrument to support the Republic of Moldova in fulfilling its obligations as a member state of the Council of Europe.
