Back Netherlands makes a voluntary contribution

The Government of the Netherlands has made a contribution of € 925 000 to support the Council of Europe’s core objectives - the protection and promotion of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

The Netherlands has made a voluntary contribution of €725 000 towards several Council of Europe Action Plans and projects. This contribution will support the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2018-2022 and its successor Action Plan, the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023 and the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2021-2024. It will also contribute to reducing the backlog of well-founded cases and the outstanding unexecuted leading judgments of the European Court of Human Rights; to support the Venice Commission, the Parliamentary Network Women Free from Violence and the Platform to promote the protection of journalism and safety of journalists; and to promote human rights and equality for LGBTI persons.

The Netherlands has also pledged €200 000 to the Human Rights Trust Fund*.

An agreement was signed on 23 June 2022 by Mr Franc Weerwind, Minister for Legal Protection, and Ms Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General, in the presence of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

 

*The HRTF brings together seven contributors: Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
