Charlotte Blondel, Vice-Chair of the Multidisciplinary Group on Environment (GME) of the Council of Europe, participated in the "Parliamentary Conference on the role of national parliaments in protecting the right to a healthy environment." The event, held at the historic Abbaye de Neumünster in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, brought together Luxembourgish and Belgian parliamentarians, members of the PACE Network for a Healthy Environment, as well as numerous officials and environmental experts.

Ms. Blondel provided a comprehensive overview of the Council of Europe's efforts within the Reykjavik process on the Environment, emphasising the interconnection between the protection of the environment and human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

She highlighted key initiatives, such as the establishment of an intergovernmental committee tasked with developing a multidisciplinary environmental strategy and critical milestones like the ECHR case-law and treaties such as the Bern Convention and the Florence Convention, illustrating the Council of Europe's longstanding contribution to international efforts to protect the environment.

She underscored the Council of Europe's commitment to environmental governance and human rights protection and the goal of making the environment a priority for the Organisation. She emphasised the important contribution of participants and observers to the GME, including parliamentarians.
