Local authorities across Bosnia and Herzegovina engage in open government movement

Joined by the members of the country’s delegation to the Congress, 15 local authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered online to discuss the new strategic priorities of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and their participation in the OGP Local Programme.

Local authorities are championing the principles of transparency, citizen engagement and co-operation with non-governmental stakeholders and citizens. The new OGP Strategy aligns with this vision, promoting co-creation as a key element for better addressing the citizens’ needs.

The OGP’s ongoing call to join OGP Local Programme was in the focus of the event. The OGP Secretariat highlighted how partnerships and local alliances with different actors can lead to more effective and people-powered solutions to complex challenges.

Several municipalities and cities have announced their interest in joining this global and ambitious initiative, which provides an opportunity for all levels of governance, citizens and civil society to join efforts to complement Bosnia and Herzegovina’s state-level OGP Action Plan 2022-2024.

This event was organised within the project "Innovating democratic participation at local level in Bosnia and Herzegovina," implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities as part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025. The project aims to enhance the quality of local democracy and create opportunities for citizens to engage in innovative participatory processes in Mostar and elsewhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It promotes new democratic approaches, open government, public ethics, and transparent and inclusive local policy making in the country.
