Back 5th Steering Committee Meeting of the Action against Economic Crime in North Macedonia

On 05 May 2022, the Action against Economic Crime in North Macedonia held its 5th Steering Committee meeting (SCM), attended by representatives of the Council of Europe in Skopje and headquarters, as well as from the Delegation of the European Union in Skopje and beneficiary institutions.

Council of Europe representatives presented an overview of the implemented activities since the 4th SCM as well as the planned activities for the upcoming six months. During the reporting period the Action continued to support national authorities in the preparation of the non-conviction based confiscation legal arrangement. The Action also supported the implementation of GRECO recommendation by providing expertise to representatives of the Association of Public Prosecutors of the Republic of North Macedonia for the revision of the Code of Ethics, as well as delivered on the spot trainings for the ADU within the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption.

During the reporting period the Action launched the process of ML/FT risk assessment of legal persons and legal arrangements. The Head of the Financial Intelligence Office presented the major outcomes, the needs for further support by the Action and expressed satisfaction in terms of cooperation with the Action’s team and the implementation of the activities. In the upcoming period the Action will continue to support national authorities by providing expert’s advice based on previously assessed needs, as well as deliver tailor made trainings on specific topics.

This activity is organised and funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey” phase II.
