Police officials from Skopje visit the Dutch police

A delegation composed of 7 senior police officials from the Public Safety Bureau within the Ministry of Internal Affairs visited the Dutch police. As a result, the delegation learnt from the Dutch experiences on divisive and non-discriminatory policing, as well as on the treatment of vulnerable groups, such as migrants, members of different ethnic communities and members of the LGBT, in police proceedings.

During the visit, the delegation met with police officials from the Headquarters at the Netherlands Police in The Hague, visited a Police Station Unit in Haaglanden and the Police Training Centre, with all of whom discussed the Dutch approaches with regards to multiculturalism and its challenges, applying the non-discrimination principle in police proceedings and combatting hate speech, including both initial and in-service police training on the respective topics. The delegation also met with representatives of the “Roze in Blauw” network and the discussions focussed on providing support to police officers subject to discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation.

The study visit to the Netherlands was organized in the period from 7 to 9 November 2017 within the scope of the Action “Enhancing Human Rights Policing”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe within the “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey” and implemented by the Council of Europe.
