The Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees Leyla Kayacik, (SRSG) will visit the Republic of Moldova on 13-15 June 2022. The country has taken in the largest number of refugees from Ukraine in relation to its population.
She will explore how the Council of Europe could, through targeted measures, support the Republic of Moldova in protecting refugees fleeing the war.
Meetings are scheduled with relevant authorities, with the Ombudsman and the People´s Advocate for Child´s Rights, representatives of NGOs and International Organisations. The SRSG will also visit the Moldexpo Refugee Accomodation Centre in Chisinau and the Palanca border crossing point near the Ukrainian border.
On 15 June 2022, the SRSG will open the Council of Europe seminar on “Psychological Support to Refugees: Strengthening Professional Capacities”. The need for psychological support to refugees was identified at the extraordinary meeting of the Network of Focal Points on Migration regarding the situation of people fleeing Ukraine.
