The 1st implementation report of the Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the child has been published outlining, inter alia, progress made by the Council of Europe and members states in upholding the rights of migrant and refugee children.
On 12 March 2024, the Thematic Dialogue Group on Transnational procedures and co-operation of the Council of Europe Consultation Group on the Children of Ukraine (CGU) held its first meeting online. Priority areas for the further work of the Dialogue Group and possible deliverables were discussed to clarify the articulation between international, European and national legislation and the responsibilities of host states with regard to the status of Ukrainian children, recognition and implementation of temporary protection measures, and international co-operation.
On 25-26 March, the Consultation Group on the Children of Ukraine (CGU) held its second plenary meeting online, showcasing in particular the topic of access to education and highlighting a selection of different national practices (Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Ukraine).
Under the European Union and Council of Europe joint project “Ensuring child-friendly justice through the effective operation of the Barnahus-units in Finland”, a grant was awarded to the NGO Pesäpuu to develop materials for children in context of migration to raise awareness on child sexual abuse. The three documents developed are a Safety book for children in migration who might be victims or witnesses of child sexual violence (in Finnish), the Guidelines for professionals who work in direct contact with children in migration who might be victims or witnesses of child sexual violence (in Finnish), which train professionals on how to help a child to fill-in the Safety Book, and finally the Leaflet to promote the Safety book (in Finnish).
