The Council of Europe’s European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) is preparing a draft instrument codifying existing international standards relating to conditions of administrative detention of migrants. The consultation process on the first draft of this instrument started in mid-May and will last until the end of June 2017. An invitation to comment has been posted on the CDCJ’s website. Civil society organisations and key stakeholders will be contacted directly. A hearing will take place on 22 and 23 June 2017 in Strasbourg to exchange views on the draft codifying instrument. Participants in this hearing (by invitation only) will be given the opportunity to play an active role in enriching this important instrument, which is expected to be finalised in 2018.
