Summary of the project:
Jogging is the most accessible sport: in terms of finances and equipment it is accessible to everyone. It is often used as a means of social integration. While running, newcomers get to know people in their neighbourhood, learn the language, get to know cultural norms,... Running offers them the opportunity to broaden their contacts and can improve inclusion.
With the support of the European Commission, the Flemish Athletics Federation is developing the 3-year 'Run Free' project, aimed at the creation of local running groups. This is done, on the one hand, with local actors and reception centres that reach refugees and, on the other hand, in cooperation with our athletics clubs. New running groups can receive financial and material support through the Run Free project, as well as start-up support and the search for coaches. A promotional offer with short running sessions or summer activities can also be part of the project.
