7th Meeting of the Group of Copenhagen: Following Financial Flows to Combat Sports Manipulation

The Group of Copenhagen, a network of national platforms to combat competitions manipulation, held its 7th plenary meeting in Strasbourg on 14 and 15 November 2024. On the first day, an open session titled "Follow the Money " brought together experts, regulators, judicial authorities, representatives from the betting sector, and investigative journalists to discuss the financial issues related to sports manipulation.

The discussions focused on the importance of tracking financial flows to identify the origins and destinations of funds in investigations, as well as the complexity of online transactions, particularly with cryptocurrencies.

This event strengthened the capabilities of national platforms and promoted cooperation with key partners, such as the Financial Intelligence Units (FIU), in the fight against financial fraud in sports.

The  15 November session addressed key topics, including recent developments at both national and international levels, surveillance measures for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and initiatives such as the ACT project and the achievements of the thematic Working Groups.
