The ACT project enabled a technical assistance mission to be held on 19 and 20 September 2024 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Discussions with relevant national stakeholders contributed to strengthening the national platform against sports manipulations (in line with Article 13 of the Macolin Convention). Several priority areas for reflection were identified, including the possibility of a legal status for the platform, potential amendments to the Icelandic legislation on sports fraud and illegal sports betting, and the establishment of an operational procedure for handling alerts.
The Council of Europe delegation, led by the Secretary of the Macolin Convention and the Chair of the Copenhagen Group, met with representatives from various institutions such as the:
- Ministry of Education and Children
- Public Prosecutor's Office
- Ministry of Justice
- Ministry of Interior
- National Lottery Operator responsible for sports betting activities
- Icelandic Olympic Committee
- National Football Federation
- National Anti-Doping Platform
This technical assistance mission is part of the ACT project.
