A team of Council of Europe experts carried out an evaluation visit to Albania on 5 and 6 December 2023, to assess the country’s anti-doping programme, practices and policies in the context of its implementation of the Anti-Doping Convention.
The team met with representatives of the public authorities responsible for sport in Albania, including from the Ministries of Education and Sport, Health, Internal Affairs and from the Albanian National Anti-Doping Agency (ALB NADO), sport federations and Albanian Olympic Committee, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies and other bodies involved in the fight against doping.
The team included Michael Petrou (Cyprus Anti-Doping Authority, Team Leader), Michal Rynkowski (Polish Anti-Doping Agency- POLADA), Yasemin Gödek (Ministry of Youth and Sports of Türkiye), and a member of the Secretariat of the Monitoring Group of the Anti-Doping Convention.
The findings, recommendations and best practices identified during the visit will be transmitted in 2024 to the Albanian authorities for their implementation.
Evaluations are part of the Monitoring Group's mandate: each year it analyses the anti-doping systems of the States Parties to the Convention through a questionnaire and evaluation visits.
