Sport is an opportunity; it teaches us tolerance and respect. It allows us to push back our limits and learn from one another, often erasing differences and frontiers. It makes us stronger in many respects.

For over five decades, the Council of Europe has contributed to making sport more ethical, more inclusive and safer. This work is grounded in the European Sports Charter and its basic principles for national sports policies, which allow governments to provide everyone with opportunities to practise sport under well-defined conditions. The Council of Europe also works towards this goal with sports organisations, international organisations, NGOs and other bodies, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) devoted a series to highlight the common values of the European Sports Charter and the Olympic Charter. To learn more about what the two Charters say about human rights in sport, integrity, fair play, sport for all, inclusion, equality, education and sustainability, visit our dedicated webpage and follow @CoE_Sports on X!
