Sport has long been a catalyst for change, fostering inclusion and transforming societal attitudes. As a celebration of the extraordinary abilities of athletes with disabilities, the Paralympic Games highlight the importance of equal access to sport for all. This principle is enshrined in the Council of Europe's European Sports Charter, which underscores that universal access to sport, a "Sport for All",  is considered a fundamental human right.

By embodying a culture of inclusivity, Paralympic sport not only breaks down barriers but also serves as a powerful tool to combat discrimination and build a more equitable society. It has the transformative power to shape perceptions and change lives, whether of the athletes, their supporters or of the people inspired by it.

In the words of Raymon Blondel, President of the European Paralympic Committee:

The Paralympic Games are the leading platform for promoting the values of inclusion and equal access to sports and society. They will showcase once more what can be achieved when people are given the right environment to play and compete, from local sports clubs all the way through to the international stage. Paralympians will once again shine in Paris, and their radiance will inspire people across Europe and beyond.

On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the Sport Division is featuring a series of testimonials from Paralympic athletes, to illustrate the value of access to sport as a universal human right.
