Three new sports federations join the EPAS Consultative Committee

Following a decision by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on 29 May 2024, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Rugby Europe and the World Snowboard Federation (WSF) have joined the Consultative Committee of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) bringing the total amount of members to 30.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), founded in 1904, is the global governing body for motor sport, overseeing 242 clubs in 147 countries. It promotes safety, sustainability, and inclusion, with programmes like ‘Girls On Track’ and ‘United Against Online Abuse’.

Rugby Europe manages rugby in Europe, comprising 47 national federations. It emphasises inclusivity and strong values like passion and respect. Rugby Europe supports gender balance and good governance, promoting rugby development through competitions, training, and education.

The World Snowboard Federation (WSF), founded in 2002, is the only global organisation for snowboarding, with 46 national associations. It focuses on sport for all and grassroots and youth development, encouraging snowboarding as a recreational sport. WSF promotes knowledge exchange and safe sport education through academic collaboration.

As members of the Consultative Committee, these three sports federations will be, together with 27 other organisations, in a privileged position to contribute to the work of EPAS, fostering dialogue between the members of sports organisations and public authorities.

EPAS is composed of three statutory bodies – the Governing Board, the Consultative Committee and the Statutory Committee – all of which strive to implement the programme of activities aimed at making sport more ethical, inclusive and safe. The Consultative Committee is composed of European sport organisations representing the grassroots sports movement and wider, including international federations, sports bodies, etc.
